OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Operation Christmas Child is an outreach of Samaritan’s Purse. The mission of Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. Through this project, Samaritan’s Purse partners with the local church worldwide to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and make disciples of the nations.
This is done through “Christmas Shoeboxes,” filled and supplied by families and churches in many countries such as the United States, Australia, Canada, and Great Britain.
Each Shoebox is a Gift of Love containing items that any child may want or need! These Gifts are sent to impoverished children, ages 2 through 14, living in various countries around the globe. The Message of God’s Love is given to them along with each shoebox, and each child is told how much Jesus loves them!
Since 1993, more than 220 million children in more than 170 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. The project delivers not only the joy of what, for many kids, is their first gift ever, but also gives them a tangible expression of God’s love.
DONATION DRIVE
Starting Next Sunday, August 18th, and for the following 12 Sundays, The OCC Donation Table will be out in front of the Worship Center before, and between each Worship Service! There will be a DROPBOX for your donations of School Supplies, Clothes, and Toys. Come November, we hope to amass a good number of “gifts” that will then be used to fill the OCC Shoeboxes.
OCC PACKING PARTY
On Saturday, November 16th, the Worship Center will be transformed into a kind of OCC Boutique where you can pick up a shoebox for either a Boy or a Girl in your preferred age bracket. Then just “shop” throughout the donated items laid out before you.
The OCC Packing Party is an All-Church Event, and all ages are welcome. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, etc. We will be packing shoeboxes from 8am until the last box is filled (usually before noon depending on the number of donations.) You can do one box or as many as your schedule will allow.
There will also be goodies to eat and drink, Christmas music, and a place for you to write a personal note to the child receiving your box. You can even include a picture of you and/or your family. Most importantly, you will have a place to pray over your box and its journey.
There are basically three categories: School Supplies, Clothes, and Toys. Each category will have its own month. School Supplies in August, Clothes in September, and Toys in October. The age groups are Boys and Girls, ages 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14. Then during the first two weeks of November, we will go about supplementing what our inventory needs to provide balance.
